Who says you can’t play with your food?
We’re sharing a vintage Crowded Earth Kitchen recipe and making a super healthy, kid-friendly, high protein snack. This is real food, friends – but don’t worry, your secret is safe with me. Let the kiddos think they’re eating dessert instead of the nutritional equivalent of an expensive protein bar. Win! Win!
Yes, I used actual Play-Doh containers for this. Made from #3 polypropylene (look for the “3” on the bottom of the container), these canisters are entirely food safe. I simply ran them through my dishwasher twice.
One small batch of this “play-doh” offers 14 grams of protein, 17 grams of good quality fat, and 22 grams of carbohydrates, with 261 total calories. The ratio of protein, fat, and carbs to calories is almost *exactly the same* as my teenager’s favorite store-bought protein bar! This homemade treat is more fun than a packaged bar, and can be made for a fraction of the cost.
Ingredients (Makes 2 child size servings)
2 tablespoons all-natural peanut butter
2 tablespoons (10 grams) chocolate protein powder
Pure Protein 100% Whey Powder – Rich Chocolate, 1 pound
1/2 tablespoon (5 grams) mini chocolate chips
1/2 tablespoon (3 grams) powdered sugar
a few sprinkles or jimmies (optional)
Directions
Simply blend peanut butter, protein powder, mini chocolate chips, and powdered sugar together to make a smooth dough. Transfer to 1 or 2 small Play-Doh containers or other fun lunch containers, and top with sprinkles. Enjoy!
Will definitely do this next time divas are in town!!
