If you are starting with flour and butter, making croissants is a time consuming art. It’s a worthy skill to master… if you have the time and motivation. If you have all of 20 minutes, however, this is the recipe for you! Rolls of frozen puff pastry are available everywhere, in the frozen dessert section of any supermarket. Pick up a roll on your next trip to the market, and have fun!
Ingredients (Makes 16 small croissants)
1 roll frozen puff pastry, thawed
1/2 cup jam or chocolate hazelnut spread (we used strawberry jam)
1 egg, beaten
Directions
Step 1) Unroll puff pastry. Using a pizza cutter, slice puff pastry into four even strips. Then, slice each strip into four triangles.
Step 2) Spread a small amount (approximately 1/2 teaspoon) of jam or chocolate hazelnut spread on each triangle, avoiding the edges.
Step 3) Roll up each triangle, starting at the wide end and rolling toward the pointy end.
Step 4) Brush each rolled up triangle with beaten egg using a pastry brush.
Step 5) Place each rolled up triangle on a greased baking sheet.
Step 6) Bake in a preheated 375 degree oven for 18 minutes or until light golden brown. Serve immediately.
