Alice in Wonderland Snacks

Alice 1“One side will make you grow taller, and the other side will make you grow shorter.”

“One side of what? The other side of what?” said Alice.

“Of the mushroom,” said the Caterpillar and then it crawled out of sight.

The kids just finished reading Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and celebrated with a small movie viewing party. With their friends, they watched Tim Burton’s movie rendition of Lewis Carroll’s classic story. Of course, no movie experience would be complete without snacks! We labeled juice pouches and store-bought fondant cakes with quotes from the book, and made our own chocolate marshmallow bar “mushrooms”. Give it a try, and have fun!

Ingredients (Makes 12 “mushrooms”)

2 tablespoons butter or margarine

1 bag (10 ounces) marshmallows

1 box (15.5 ounces) Cocoa Krispies cereal

Alice 3Directions

Step 1) Melt butter over low heat in a medium pot. Add marshmallows. Stir constantly over low heat until marshmallows are melted.

Step 2) Remove pot from heat and add cereal. Fold in cereal until well combined.

Step 3) Transfer mixture to a greased jelly roll pan or other large baking sheet. Press evenly with hands to 1 inch thick. (Tip: Get your hands wet, and the mixture won’t stick to your hands!)

Step 4) Place pan in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.

Alice 2Step 5) After 30 minutes, remove pan from fridge and cut bars into mushroom shapes. I used an Easter egg-shaped cookie cutter that I had on hand, and cut pieces off to form mushrooms (see photo). Enjoy!
