No, this isn’t really candy – it’s simply preserved fruit that tastes like candy. With no added sugar, these chewy mango strips are a high fiber, guilt-free snack!
With fresh, ripe mangoes priced at only $0.39 each at Aldi, it’s time to pull out the food dehydrator! (If you don’t have one yet, check out the suggestions on my Kitchen Gadgets page.) Simply peel and slice mangoes into 1/4 inch thick strips and dry at 135 degrees for 18 hours. My food dehydrator holds approximately 8 whole mangoes at once.
After 18 hours, transfer your Chewy Mango “Candy” into freezer bags. Store freezer bags in a larger airtight container (an old ice cream tub works great) in a dark cupboard. Your Chewy Mango “Candy” will be shelf stable for several months, although I doubt you’ll leave it alone that long!
Enjoy!
I’ve gotta try this. My husband loves mangoes and is always looking for healthy on-the-go snacks to take hiking.
This would make a fantastic hiking snack. It’s high in fiber, so it’s nice and filling. 🙂
🙂 I can’t wait to show my husband this recipe tonight. Thanks for sharing 🙂
